Ride Checks

Ottawa Police Services and the local OPP Detachments  will be ramping up their impaired driving spot checks after the Ontario government increased funding for the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program. City police will receive $49,202 of the allocated funds, the province has committed to police services in order to double the R.I.D.E. program's funding and increase spots checks. Provincial funding assists in covering officers paid duty and overtime during R.I.D.E. activities.

The additional funding will enable the OPS and OPP to conduct more R.I.D.E. programs and allow them to remove more Impaired Drivers from our city streets and the surrounding area.

In 2007, Ontario police conducted more than 500,000 spots checks, resulting in 466 drivers being charged
